We are a group of friends and makers with a shared vision for what a supportive community looks like in creative spaces. We are printmakers who draw from our experiences as neighbors, educators, community organizers, performers, and more. We all wear many hats, and we are excited to bring these perspectives to the shop as we invite and support others to do the same. Together, we aim to provide the power of the press to our NEK community and beyond!
What is Letterpress?
Letterpress is a form of relief printing. Individual letters, symbols and images of wood or metal can be composed and locked into place on the bed of a printing press where it is then inked. The paper is then pressed against the form to transfer the ink from the type which creates an impression on the paper. It is a tactile and hands-on form of printing not too dissimilar to what Gutenberg was up to. The presses at Hard-Pressed date back to the 1920’s.
About the Zine Library
The zine library is a project of Banditry Press in collaboration with Burdock Zine Distro. The library is comprised of zines that were previously housed in other spaces, namely the Beehive Design Collective alongside collections by Burdock Zine Distro and Banditry Press’s growing number of resources and DIY published titles. Library outposts are currently at Fox Market and Bar in East Montpelier, and at the Civic Standard in Hardwick.
